Who This Project Supports
A portion of proceeds from the Surfside Memorial Challenge Coin will support first responder mental health, resiliency, wellness, and support initiatives through the organizations below. The organizations listed below were selected because of their commitment to supporting the mental health, wellness, resiliency, and long-term well-being of first responders and their families.
The For Paul Foundation
The For Paul Foundation was established in honor of Critical Care Flight Paramedic Paul Besaw, who was killed in the line of duty in 2017. Built on the belief that honoring heroes means showing up in action, the foundation continues Paul’s legacy by supporting first responders and their families through meaningful programs, advocacy, education, and service.
During the Surfside response, the foundation supported first responders by delivering meals across multiple deployments. Today, they continue that mission by honoring legacy through scholarships for future EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters, supporting line-of-duty families, advocating for and supporting Crisis Response K-9 programs, and serving first responders and their families through meaningful initiatives that offer hope, healing, and support.

One Brother One Sister
One Brother One Sister was founded with a mission to support first responders and their families through education, peer support, intervention resources, and access to life changing services. Inspired by personal loss, co-founder Karyn Hurley adopted the mission of helping first responders after the loss of her brother Michael, who served as a firefighter and proud U.S. veteran. Through that commitment to those who serve others, the organization provides training, wellness programs, confidential support services, treatment guidance, and resources focused on mental health, addiction, PTSD, and overall well-being.
Through compassion, connection, and education, One Brother One Sister continues to help first responders and their families find hope, healing, and support while strengthening the communities they serve.
